OUR STORY

Spear Creek Station has been in the Herde family since the mid 1940’s predominately breeding Merino sheep for wool. The wool market crash in 1991 led third generation Herde, Scott and his wife Dannah to explore different types of sheep, settling on the Dorper due to its suitability for the property. Dorpers are a South African breed that shed their wool and are purely bred for meat.

Shortly prior to this transition, second generation Herde, Dean and his wife Lyn, began construction of Spear Creek Tourism and Training Centre. Dean had a special connection to the property and decided a tourism hub in the centre of the station was the perfect way to share his home with others. Off-road 4WD, security & firearms training were other opportunities that the business explored up until Dean’s retirement in the mid 2000’s, when third generation Herde, Mark and his wife Kylie, took over the caravan park.

In late 2021 Spear Creek Caravan Park was purchased by the fourth generation, Tom, son of Scott. Tom and his partner Jai have since rebranded the business as ‘Spear Creek Holiday Park’, and plan to develop new facilities, increase the number of camp sites, and offer unique experiences, whilst encapsulating the natural beauty and prime location of the Southern Flinders Ranges.

Spear Creek is our home and we welcome you to come and enjoy our piece of paradise!
